Software Engineer – General - Bevy

Job Description

Using your knowledge of distributed computing and application development, you’ll contribute directly to the Bevy community management platform that serves millions of event attendees and community managers each day. You’ll work within our team to keep Bevy the market leader in real life community software through ongoing software innovation and attention to details.

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Develop and ship features in Django and React that make attending an event, joining a community, or growing a community simpler and more delightful.
  • Review code changes made by others for standards of readability, security, and performance.
  • Plan and automate tests that ensure software works as designed and deals with surprises effectively.
  • Suggest improvements to processes to avoid undesirable, repetitive work or introduce qualities which increase desirable outcomes.
  • Analyze effects that are happening in production systems to plan and implement improvements.
  • You’ll collaborate on design of product features, sometimes doing primary design, sometimes proposing improved design.
  • You’ll seek open source software that already solves the problem-at-hand or makes solving it simpler.
  • Learn, learn, learn and help educate our team and customers about Bevy and better ways of getting stuff done
  • Work closely with everyone who has a stake in the Bevy platform and products.


  • You’re a hands-on, full stack developer. You have strong knowledge of modern day web frameworks and distributed computing, especially using Django and React.
  • You’ve integrated open-source libraries and third party systems into your own software work reliably and efficiently.
  • You like solving interesting, hard problems.
  • You ask probing questions about software and don’t give up easily.
  • You’ve created user experiences that are simple, modern, and accessible.
  • You’ve worked on applications which must be concerned with privacy & security. Experience applying OWASP ASVS or other standards is a bonus.
  • You reside in North or South America. Yes, we are a distributed company, but since we are still small, we like to minimize the time zone spread within the team.
  • You are an excellent communicator. In our small team, English is the official language. You need to be able to articulate complex ideas efficiently and effectively. When people do not share an office, it is essential to pay extra attention to communication & speak up.


  • Work From Anywhere. We are a remote company and you can literally work from anywhere as long as you have a good internet connection.
  • Paid Holidays: The following are paid holidays for full-time employees. They’re all marked on the Bevy Calendar: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day After Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.
  • Holiday Shutdown Week: There’s nothing more important than family and spending time with them at Bevy. Every year the office is closed for a full 2 weeks starting around December 19 and will reopen January 2nd of the new year.
  • Unlimited Paid Time Off: Bevy encourages employees to take whatever amount of time off they need each year to stay productive. This means there are no limits to paid time off, and in fact the company encourages employees to take at least two weeks a year, making sure they actually take advantage of their time and move closer to that perfect mix of work-life balance.
  • Expense Paid Company Retreats: Twice per year, the whole team gathers together for a weeklong, all expense-paid company retreat. All expenses are included. This happens in spring (February/March) and fall (August/September) each year and more details are provided as we get closer to retreat dates. Retreats are a way of strengthening connections between employees who otherwise don’t get a lot of in-person face time. We have had three retreats to date and they have taken place in Seattle, Banff and San Francisco.
  • 12 weeks off for Parental Leave: Bevy encourages their employees to take time off whenever they need it and offers 12 weeks of paid parental leave for primary caregivers who have or adopt a baby, and four weeks of paid leave for partners.
  • Medical/Dental/Vision/Life Benefits/401k: All full-time employees are eligible for health benefits, starting the 1st of the month following your hire (assuming all enrollment forms are completed). The company covers 100% of employee premiums which are based on age for Health, Dental and Vision and 25% for eligible dependents.
